OMG....the watchtardedness of the CLAM. ( Cult Lies and Manipulation )
by DATA-DOG inas we all know, the clam reeks of propaganda and lunacy (sniff...sniff...mmmmm...smells like the gb's meeting room.
what did dubs glean from the clam that washed ashore this week?
according to the book of ezra, jeehoober is so fearful of competition, that he banishes wives and even small children.

Excellent, Blondie, thank you!
...
And Data-Dog, BRILLIANT & BEST "CLAM" definition ever!!
"Cult Lies And Manipulation"!!!!!!
...
Sometimes I used to wonder how Jehovah could be so *mean* about so many things and treat people & innocent animals so horribly. Of course, it all had some grander purpose & explanation that my mortal, imperfect mind could never fully understand....

Queued for Processing ....
by cofty inif a new topic hangs for ages with spinning icon at "queued for processing " should you give up and post a new copy of the thread or will the eventually result in two threads?.
if it has cleared the first tick "uploading post" can you safely click away from the page?.
servers seem a bit slow recently?.

Cofty, thank you! I thought there was something wrong on my end of things. And Simon, great to hear you're aware of it and on top of this. :)
slimboyfat, hilarious!! Yes, you are quite correct, many of us do await eagerly your brilliant response(s). You know, like that one post you had... that one time.... ;)

Books I read when I deprogrammed
by OrphanCrow inblondie suggested someone start a thread with a list of books that are valuable to read when exiting the jws.. i will start.. i left the jws way back in the early 70s and didn't actually deprogram until into the 80s.. one of the first books i read was "the orwellian world of jehovah's witnesses" by gary and heather botting.
canadian exjws from calagary.
an excellent book and one that still resonates with young people today.

(an aside to slimboyfat - even though the opening post didn't mention CoC or ISoCF, I did catch Orphan Crow's "vibe" ;)
I wanted to mention them anyway... those books are too powerful in the awakening process to ignore.)
She mentioned Schnell, who wrote "Thirty Years a Watchtower Slave", which I have also read, but it was a little hard going at times. He gives insight into the mind of Rutherford and the goals of the early days of the organization, and the DELIBERATE campaign to get rank and file members jailed or persecuted in order to gain publicity.
Schnell remained a "fundamentalist Christian" or whatever he called himself, the book had much ravings about the organization being the beast of Revelation, but if you can get past that, there is some interesting historical stuff.

I was helped to appreciate the mental damage that this cult does to a child (I was a convert, around the age of 20) by these two books:
"The Spanking Room" by William Coburn, and
"I'm Perfect, You're Doomed" by Kyria Abrahams

So obvious, but must be mentioned: "Crisis of Conscience" & "In Search of Christian Freedom" by Ray Franz. -

Book Review: The Watchtower Society, Organizational Misbehavior
by johnny depp inthis is the way crisis of conscience should have been written.
finally, a book written on the watchtower society by someone who actually knows how to write!
after reading the subheading, “the psychology of jehovah’s witnesses,” (pages 160–182), i have abandoned the belief that we have an “unconscious,” and will never again consult any psychologist, psychiatrist, or counselor.

Honestly, Did Jehovah's Witnesses Do Anything POSITIVE For You?
by minimus ini was raised as a witness and am very thankful that i am out.
having said that, i think my upbringing produced positive qualities in me.
do you believe that anything positive came from your being a witness?

Blondie, I did not mean to minimize the dastardly and cowardly acts of the organization and its terrible and tragic policies regarding any forms of abuse, or molestation, child abuse, domestic violence, and child sexual abuse.
The WT organization has indeed, been "weighed in the balances and has been found wanting."
